Chia seeds become gelatinous when soaked in liquid, which despite the way that sounds, provides a very pleasant texture perfect for any Chia Fresca. What's a Chia Fresca, you ask? Essentially, it's our take on a refreshing lemonade-type drink with chia seeds. After all, who wouldn't want that extra boost of Omega-3 and fibre that chia adds? Don't stop at lemonade though - when the feeling is right, add the chia to your cocktails (or mocktails) and sip it on a sunny afternoon!
Ingredients
- ¼ cup (2 oz) lime juice (about 2 limes)
- PRANA organic fair trade cane sugar (to rim glasses)
- 2 tsp PRANA organic whole black ProactivChia seeds
- ¼ cup (2 oz) water
- ¼ cup (2 oz) tequila
- ⅛ cup (1 oz) Triple Sec or Cointreau
- A dash of maple syrup
- ½ cup (4 oz) Kombucha, your choice of flavour
- A few ice cubes
- 1 sliced lime (for garnish)
Preparation
- Dip glass rims in a little lime juice, then roll in cane sugar to frost rim.
- In a small bowl, mix water and chia seeds. Set aside 20 minutes while chia turns into gel. In a cocktail shaker or mason jar, mix together the alcohols, lime juice, maple syrup, ice cubes and chia gel. Secure lid and give it a good shake.
- Add kombucha, stir quickly and pour into frosted glasses. Garnish with a slice of lime.
